Auckland Heritage Seed Savers Network Handy tips on selecting, harvesting and cleaning seeds for donating to the Auckland Heritage Seed Savers Network (AHSSN) Seed Bank. The AHSSN perpetuates and promotes genetic diversity within food crops with an emphasis on heirloom vegetables (seeds handed down from one generation to the next). Since the 1920’s we have lost at least 90% of our vegetable cultivars, due to rationalisation by our major seed suppliers. We save seeds to gain a wider variety of plants not available commercially which are adapted to local conditions, taste great and are high in vitamins and minerals.
Ordering: We have a spring meeting to swap seeds and chat and an AGM in Autumn held at the AUCKLAND REGIONAL BOTANIC GARDENS. New members are most welcome to join us and share in a lite pot luck lunch.
