Any ideas on how to be rid of two dreaded pests: blackberry and snails? Also, I noticed on the website a query re. mould. I have heard cow's milk applied
to the affected plant gets rid of mould, I have not tried this myself however. This is a wonderful service you offer, I look forward to your response.
Re blackberry, I am afraid slashing it and digging out the roots is the only effective organic control that I know of.
For snails, create habitats for predators such as hedgehogs and thrushes. Water sparingly, try to keep the soil surface relatively dry. Enable air movement above ground level to reduce humidity. A dried powdered preparation of soapwort (Saponaria officinalis) may help to repel snails and slugs (but not effective in wetweather). Beer traps are mainly for attracting slugs but should work for snails as well.
