 Back to the questions . . .
Land size needed to feed 150 people? I'm doing an assessment involving a community garden and was
wondering how much space would need to be allocated for 150
people.

Hi Shaun
It depends on how self-sufficient you want to be.
- 30-50 per cent self sufficiency
veges (some bought in)/ berry fruit/ compost area and pathways = 54 metres squared per person
- 50-80% (including above)
all veges are grown in the garden potatoes, fruit and cereals are purchased as are dairy products garden beds are intensively used and planted = 73 metres squared per person very intensive growing + rotation + green manure crops = 100 metres squared per person
- 80-90% (largely vegetarian diet)
all veges, berry fruit, fruit, cereals, pasture for sheep and goat, fodder cereal, compost area and pathways = 820 metres square per person
If option No. 1 is chosen, 100metres squared x 150 people = 15,000 metres squared = at least 1.5-2 hectares per community

good luck on your assessment
