 Back to the questions . . .
Strawberries Hi! I am just starting to take care of a strawberry patch at my new home where it hasn't been taken care of in almost two years. My question is: To weed in the patch do I just pull everything out except the leaves for the strawberries, or are all the "twigs" in the patch also part of the plant? I do not know much about strawberries at all. Thank you very much for your help.
If it hasn’t been taken care of for two years, it will be very weedy. The strawberries will have developed big crowns with rather woody "stalks" coming from the centre. It might be an idea to carefully lift the old plants, weed the whole area and then replant (removing most of the growth of the old plants). You could also look for runners and the little plantlets on the runners. Cut them off the runner, pot them up, and once rooted, plant them out in spring in the weeded area.
