I have an aphid problem on my Orange trees. I don't wish to use any
insecticides. I have been experimenting with spraying laundry water on
the trees and also a spraying oil. It does not appear to be having much
impact. Should I be concerned about the infestation or will they soon
disappear with the cold weather. Is there a product I can use to rid
them.
- Regular spraying with soap spray (dissolve 60g pure soap in 4.5 L hot water, cool and use. Liquid dishwashing detergent can be used but may damage the waxy coating of very young plants).
- Garlic or chilli sprays - soak garlic or fresh cilli in fresh water.
- Pyrethrum and garlic spray (available commercially)
- Neem soap (Trade Aid)
Use every few days until infestations are reduced.
To work, laundry water needs to be concentrated and sprayed regularly. Spraying oil will work better than laundry water, especially for mites.
